About Me

Hi, thanks for visiting A Running Conversation!

My name is Krista.  I started running in February 2009 and was addicted by the time I finished my first half marathon in June.  In the past year I’ve run six half marathons and three full marathons in addition to a handful of shorter distances.  I’m currently training for a fourth marathon in October 2010.

I’m starting to feel legitimate calling myself an endurance runner but I’m not entirely comfortable with the title yet.  Someone referred to me as an athlete the other day and I thought, no I’m not!  But maybe I am.  Or I’m becoming one.  Prior to 2008, when I started cycling, I had never been athletic.  Ever.  And I hardly ever exercised.

I call Colorado home but was recently forced by the downturn in the economy to take a job in northern California.  For now I’ve kept my place in Denver and I commute back every other weekend.  It’s definitely not ideal, though I love my job and I’m grateful for it and for the friends who are letting me stay with them in CA while I figure out how best to negotiate this new adventure.

  1. Krista,

I really admire you. Way to go girl. Exercise for exercise sake is not enjoyable for me, but you have really inspired me to find something I can commit to. Right now it’s just walking for a mile a day. The motivation to exercise really is all about the conversation I have going on in my head. When I bitch to myself, I think of your blog and how you just push through it to get it done. I really do feel better afterwards.

I had to focus on getting a formal excerise routine started because I started a medication that has a side effect of raising my cholesterol. Another side affect from this mediction is joint stiffness and tighness. To counter the high cholesterol (257), I now take a statin, which also causes muscle cramping. Crap! The silver lining is that I only need to take all of this for about 6 months and the side effects are temporary.

What is this medication you ask? It’s accutane, for nodular acne. It’s really a bitch to be almost 46 yrs old and still have nasty acne. I thought I had left all that acne behind me in my teens! So my motivation for taking this medicine is really great. I’m focusing on the positive outcomes. A beautiful complexion and enjoying an exercise routine.

I love reading your blogs and find you are a great motivator.

    Thank you,

    Lynn
